Music News: Slipknotâs Clown Defends AI Music
Slipknotâs Clown has defended the use of AI in music.
The 56-year-old percussionist â whose real name is Shaun Crahan â said he is âemploying AI 190 per centâ and called it âa professor in my pocket who only wants to do what I ask itâ.
He told gaming magazine The Escapist: âIâve been using AI my whole life,â and claimed he has âthousands and thousandsâ of poems that he is adapting through the use of AI.
He explained how he uses the technology, saying: âHere are my words. Donât change them. Donât alter them. But show me some different ways to sing it.â
Clown added that he would prefer use AI rather than pay a producer â$150,000â to produce unsatisfactory results.
However, Clownâs Slipknot bandmate Corey Taylor doesnât agree with his positive thoughts about AI.
He told Kerrang! in 2023: âPeople keep going, âOh, isnât it cool?â Iâm like, no, itâs not cool. What are you, out of your mind? What? Suddenly now we have no talent? The only thing that weâre gonna get that sounds cool and new is from something that doesnât even exist? S**** you, man!â
