On Wednesday evening (3.04,) Britney Spears was detained in Ventura City, by the California Highway Patrol and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

According to the arrest record, the superstar singer was placed in handcuffs at around 9:30pm local time and taken into custody in the early hours of Thursday morning (3.05.) The 44-year-old singer has since been released and is expected to appear in court on May 4.

The latest news comes weeks after the the embattled musician had sold the rights to her entire music catalogue to privately held music publisher Primary Wave.

A report by TMZ stated that the deal was finalized on December 30, and though unclear how much Spears received, a source told the outlet it was on par with Justin Bieberâs reported $200,000,000.00 deal to sell his back catalogue to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2023.

Having been released in 2021 from a controversial 13-year conservatorship, the Missouri native recently declared that she will âneverâ perform in the U.S. again for âextremely sensitive reasonsâ. In a January Instagram post, Spears added, âBut I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son in the UK and Australia very soon.â
