Music News: Mariah Carey Addresses 3rd Rock Hall Nomination
Mariah Carey believes her chart record shows she deserves a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Hero hitmaker admitted it âfelt greatâ to have been shortlisted for induction for the third year in a row, and she hopes to finally add a place in the hall onto her list of accomplishments.
She admitted to Billboard: âItâs definitely an unchecked box.âÂ
Asked why she deserved to be welcomed into the Hall of Fame, she added: âI would say they should check out the 19 [Billboard Hot 100] Number Ones⦠not everybody has those to their name.âÂ
Mariah â who has previously covered songs from the likes of Def Leppard, Foreigner and Journey â claimed she was always keen to show off her rockier side but was told: âStay in your lane.âÂ
She said: âI want to give people a taste of Someoneâs Ugly Daughter⦠I think it is pretty funny, because I created this thing and what do you do? Itâs just there.âÂ
When Mariah was honoured as MusiCares Person of the Year earlier this year, Foo Fighters and Taylor Momsen covered her Someoneâs Ugly Daughter tracks Hermit and Love Is a Scam respectively, and she was delighted with the tribute.
She said: âThat was amazing. Just to feel that whole thing, I donât even know how to express it.âÂ
Meanwhile, the Fantasy singer recently teased she has new music in the pipeline.
She told Variety: âIâm definitely recording new music and Iâm very excited about it. And yeah, Iâm kind of like always recording new music, but I hope it will do well and people will like it. But yeah, new music.â
Asked if she is working on a new album, she laughed: âWhen I say that, people get upset with me.â
The We Belong Together hitmaker also revealed her plans for the 25th anniversary of her Glitter movie and soundtrack album.
The 2001 romantic musical drama initially flopped at the box office, but its soundtrack went on to earn such a devoted following that fans launched a Justice For Glitter campaign in 2018 â ultimately pushing the album back onto charts around the world.
Asked how she plans to mark the milestone, she said: âPlans for a deluxe and a reissue, or maybe just one, I donât know. Weâre getting on top of it. Iâm excited about it.â
Because of its poor performance, Mariah didnât like Glitter, but she learned to love it.
She said: âI used to hate it. I used to be so like, why did I do that? And then, you know, it became something that I really loved and it just sort of took on its own thing.â
Asked why, she quipped: âBecause it was a disastrous flop.â
