Music News: William Orbitâs Followup To Madonnaâs âRay Of Lightâ

Despite writing what he believes is a spiritual follow-up to âRay Of Light,â William Orbit says the project is ânot going to happenâ because he hasnât heard back from the Madonna.

Having won multiple Grammys for his work on the 1998 album, the British-born producer took to Facebook with a detailed explanation, and despite his hopes of reconnecting creatively with the pop icon, he hasnât had any contact from her in more than two decades.

âRight. Letâs put this Madonna ROL 2.0 thing to rest here and now folks. Can get exhausting. Is NOT going to happen. Look, why donât I just lay it out, cos I get asked constantly. I have an album ready that, in my opinion, is indeed the successor to Ray Of Light. Everything about how it was made and how it sounds yells that from the first few bars,â wrote Orbit, adding that he reached out to Madonna but received ânil response.â âA week later. I speak with many close to her, including fam, but have not had a single syllable back in over two decades. There I said it.â

Despite the lack of communication, the ?-year old producer said he holds no resentment âZero zero absolute zero hard feelings. Are you kidding, I will always love that woman. For real. She made my career. But am I crying? Look at me. Crying with mirth and glee these days.â

Currently working on a book of his own, Orbit promises it will include the full story along with âdeep chapters,â âpop goss,â cartoon art and his trademark humor, and joking that he has âtransitioned now to a man for whom Fs are no longer on offer â zero f***s for the music biz.â

âSo, for the history books, she doesnât love me any more â waaaaaaaaah. Awww. No icon for Billy. Never mind, thereâll be another one along. For my ROL 2. And this time Billy goes full gonzo. (sic)â

Having previously collaborated on Ray Of Light and Music, two of the most acclaimed records of her career, William Orbit worked with Madonna on her 2012 album MDNA.
