Music News: Demi Lovato Defends Charity Heart Performance

Demi Lovato has insisted it wasnât her idea to sing Heart Attack at a past event for a heart charity.

Back in 2024, the singer-actress went viral after she performed her 2013 single for the guests at the American Heart Associationâs Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection gala.Â

But during an interview for The Elvis Duran Show on Thursday, Demi explained that the organisers of the event purposely asked her to sing the song.Â

âThey asked me to sing that,â she said. âI flagged it beforehand and was like, âIsnât this, like, not the vibe?â They were like, âNo, they wanna hear it.â I was like, âOK?’â

Accordingly, Demi received a lot of criticism online over the choice.Â

While introducing the song at the charity spectacle, Demi told the crowd that the track invoked many emotions for her.Â

âWhile my next song is about the intense feelings that come with falling in love as well as heart break, opening yourself up, taking risks and not being afraid to do it again, this song has many parallels for me â my journey and a reminder for all of us in the room just how strong the mind-heart-body connection truly is,â she told the crowd at the time, per Entertainment Tonight.Â

In 2018, Demi was rushed to the hospital after an opioid overdose.Â

She suffered multiple health complications, including a heart attack and brain damage, as a result.Â

The pop star, who married musician Jutes last year, is now sober.

Demi released her ninth studio album, Itâs Not That Deep, last October and is set to embark on a tour across North America from April to May 2026.
