Summer Weekend Movies: A Heartfelt Rom-Com & Faith-Filled Suspense
As the balmy summer evenings approach, there’s no better way to unwind than by reveling in the magic of summer weekend movies. This season brings to the fore a delightful mix of genres, but two stand out: a heartfelt romantic comedy (rom-com) and a faith-filled suspense. There is something incredibly soothing about lounging on the couch with your favorite snack, while losing yourself in these captivating narratives.
Starting with the rom-com genre, summer is indeed the perfect time for love to bloom, not just in real life, but also on the silver screen. The quintessential summer rom-com is light-hearted, full of bright colors and, of course, brimming with love. It offers the perfect blend of humor and romance, resulting in a refreshing concoction that’s perfect for those lazy summer afternoons.
One such rom-com that has made waves this summer is “Love in the Sun.” This movie perfectly encapsulates the sunny and vibrant spirit of summer love. Set in a picturesque coastal town, the story revolves around a young woman who returns home for the summer. As she endeavors to save her family’s inn, she reconnects with her high school sweetheart, leading to a series of heartwarming and humorous events. The characters are incredibly relatable, and their dialogues are laced with wit and charm, making the movie a delightful watch.
Moving onto faith-filled suspense, this genre is a unique mix of nail-biting suspense and spiritual narratives. It offers an intriguing blend of mystery, action, and profound faith-based lessons, which make for a captivating watch on a balmy summer evening.
A recent standout in this genre is “Breakthrough.” Based on a true story, this movie tells the tale of a mother who refuses to lose hope after her son falls through an icy Missouri lake. Her steadfast faith and determination to pray for her son’s recovery, despite the bleak prognosis, form the crux of the story. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, while the faith-based narrative provides a thought-provoking reflection on the power of prayer and belief. It’s an emotionally charged movie that will leave you contemplating the strength of faith in trying times.
What makes these two genres stand out is their innate ability to evoke a range of emotions. While the rom-com leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling and a smile on your face, the faith-filled suspense keeps you engrossed with its intense and thought-provoking narrative.
So whether you’re a hopeless romantic looking for a light-hearted, feel-good flick, or someone seeking a movie with a more profound, faith-based narrative, these summer weekend movies are sure to cater to your cinematic preferences. All you need is a bowl of your favorite popcorn and a cozy spot to relax and enjoy these heartwarming tales. Happy watching!

Movie Reviews:
One of a Kind Love is a simple, sweet, family-friendly movie. The film stars Jocelyn Hudon, who is recognizable to Hallmark fans from When Hope Calls, From Friend to Fiancé, and Baby, Itâs Cold Inside. Jocelyn portrays the very likable girl-next-door sort of character, Kyra, who dreams of being a jewelry designer and owning her own shop in town. In the meantime, she works at the local country club and sells her jewelry designs in her fatherâs antique shop. Just as sheâs about to make plans to acquire the space for her own store, the son of the country club owners, Aidan, who is a wealthy business man used to traveling around the world and making deals by the minute, returns home and makes his own bid on the property and begins to steal Kyraâs heart, as well. Can they work it out before itâs too late? I think youâll enjoy this happy ending. ~Net
I watched several of the new movies you told us about on BYUtv, Net. One of a Kind Love, Seasoned with Love, and You May Kiss the Bridesmaid all completely charmed me! Somehow, for me, they were more real and natural and engrossing. Glad to know I’m not just broken and unable to enjoy our wonderful, pleasant, cheesy movies anymore! ;-) ~Alicia

The Christian radio station KLove promoted the film Finding Faith when it premiered early in theaters.
I found this movie review on YouTube from someone who caught an early screening, so I thought I would share it with all of you…
Movie Review:
I attended the movie screening in Santa Monica, CA, on May 13th. This is a fantastic film about having it all, including a nice home, marriage, and family, only to lose it all, fight back, and find redemption. Paula Patton did an outstanding job as “Faith!” So did the others in the movie. It should be required viewing for churches, as the movie is a sermon in itself. Hopefully, the faith-based community will rally around this film and go in droves as a church outing. ~Eric C.
CAUTION Please Note: Based on the movie’s promo (see here), Finding Faith will contain some adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
