Eminem has celebrated 18 years of sobriety, marking a significant milestone after his past struggles with prescription drug addiction.

The Real Slim Shady rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, shared the achievement on Instagram this week, posting a snap of himself holding a sobriety token.

The coin featured the phrase âTo thine own self be trueâ around its outer edge, while the words âunity, service, recoveryâ were arranged in a triangle at its centre, surrounding the number 18 in Roman numerals.

The 53-year-old captioned the post simply, âXVIII (gold medal emoji).â

A number of stars were quick to congratulate Eminem in the comments, including Questlove, who wrote, âAwesome. Keep Goin.â Meanwhile, Big Sean added, âYessir! Keep it up.â

âI got into this vicious cycle of, âIâm depressed so I need more pills,’â he said at the time, via Us Weekly. âThen your tolerance gets so high that you end up overdosing.â

âI woke up in the hospital and I didnât know what happened,â Eminem continued. âI woke up in the hospital with tubes in me and s**t and I couldnât get up, I wanted to move.â

The rapper went on to reveal that missing one of his eldest daughter Alaina Marieâs birthdays proved to be the wake-up call that he needed.

âI cried because it was like, âOh my god, I missed that,’â he shared. âI kept saying to myself, âDo you want to fking miss this again? Do you want to miss everything? If you canât do it for yourself, you fking p**sy, at least do it for them.’â

The Mockingbird rapper added, âI realised Iâm never doing this again.â
